Course Grading

We use a proficiency grading system in STA 215, where graded items do not earn points, but you instead demonstrate your level of proficiency on Learning Targets. When you submit most work, I will evaluate it on the basis of whether or not it meets standards of acceptable work. These standards will be shared with you in advance. More details are provided about specific learning activities, how proficiency grading relates to these learning activities, and how you can revise your work until you are satisfied with your marks.

We will discuss proficiency grading several times throughout the semester. In short, your grade in this course will reflect your effort and improvement. It sometimes takes multiple attempts and new concepts to help previous material make sense and that is ok. This is probably a different and seemingly more complicated process than you are used to; however, this is to provide you with more control over your grade and less stress.
