Introductory Applied Statistics

A technique-oriented approach to statistical problems with emphasis on applications. Descriptive statistics, probability distributions, estimation, testing hypotheses, t-test, regression and correlation, chi-square tests, one-way analysis of variance. A statistical software package will provide computational assistance. Fulfills Foundations - Mathematical Sciences.

Prerequisite: MTH 110 (Algebra)

Course Information

Course Level Objectives:

  • Design and assess data collection plans.
  • Create, explain, and assess graphical displays and numerical summaries of data.
  • Explain how variability plays a role in statistical analyses.
  • Determine and use the appropriate statistical analysis technique to solve authentic real-life application problems.
  • Explain and interpret statistical findings to a broader audience.

Class Time

Your section meets synchronously online once a week.

Section 13 Sat 9 - 11:50 am Blackboard Collaborate

All class meetings will be recorded and made available to learners in Blackboard.

The course material is split into six Learning Modules. Each Learning Module contains two or three Learning Questions that will facilitate our progression through the content. A Learning Question corresponds roughly to one week of material and we will follow a before, during, and after pattern for covering this material. This pattern is discussed in more detail in Course Structure.
